Development Economics

by Amma Serwah-Panin, PhD candidate at Berlin Social Center (WZB)

The course provides an overview of major topics in development economics with an emphasis on introducing a set of empirical tools to test development theories. Thematically, we will cover two main sections: i) economic growth and macro institutions,  and ii) micro institutions such as healthcare, education and credit markets. We will explore different empirical strategies to answer these questions including randomized controlled trials, instrumental variable estimation, difference-in-difference estimators, and lab-in the field experiments.
